Back in the day.....they use to make Clutch-flites. They were Torqueflites with a manual clutch set up adapted to the front, where the convertor would be. They'd use the clutch to get it off the line and then just shift the automatic.

Grand pa used to just leave it in 2nd gear and use it as one speed automatic around town. Wasn't real peppy though, the way I remember it as an 8 year old. Rev

Rev....PLEASE don't date me too much. I remember the Fluid Drives. They were early Chrysler products in the late 40's, early 50's.

A Clutch-Flite was something that Drag Racer came out with, like the Ramchargers, in the 60's and they used the clutch to get the car off the line in a hurry and then shift it, without the clutch, up through the 1-2-3.

Brian got his new converter and was all exicted, even put it in himself and as far as I can tell he's really happy with it. Haven't heard from him so I'm guessin he's out beatin on the car! LOL

Automatics are for girls and sissys. Sorry guys, just the way I am. I know for a fact that auto's are more consistant, but there's just something about hammerin through the gears that makes my tongue hard. I'm not old enough (SORRY! LOL) to remember the Fluid Drive, but I know for a fact there are quite a few drag cars out there running automatics WITH A CLUTCH! Trick setup, really cool. And that's prolly the ONLY way I would ever have an auto, but you guys know me, it just ain't gonna happen. "Beat 'em with a stick!" ![]()

Yep, the new converter works great!! The "seat of pants" meter is pegged!! It picks up rpms like there is no tomorrow!!

I'm hoping it will knock .2 off my '60 times and about .4 or .5 off my ET I also ditched the old 750 vacuum secondary and bought a 750dp. Add all this to my sumped tank with Holley blue pump and -8AN fuel line that I did last fall and this beast should burn up the drag strip! With the luck I have though, the SOB will probably run 2 seconds slower! I doubt it though because it feels like an entire different beast! Jester , will your beast be racing this year? Either I'll have to make a trip out there this summer or you'll have to come out this way......or both! We should start planning something.....

If all goes well, but I have to be honest it's not looking good right now. WAAAAY too many irons in the fire right now, started a new biz and been working really hard on that.

Collecting parts for the Hellraiser though, so I'm still hopeful for late summer. ![]()
