Roller rockers multiply the lift from the cam lobe. So you have a cam, then roller lifters which roll on the cam lobe. The roller lifters push a push rod that pushes the roller rocker. Which it turn opens and closes the valves. So if you want to change your rocker arms you do not need to change the cam. Rocker arms multiply lift from the cam lobe like I said earlier so if you have a cam with say .300" cam lobe lift times 1.6 that would give you .480" of valve lift. Now say you put a 1.7 rr on that would give you .510" of valve lift. Hope this makes sense.

Fogot to add that 1.6 and 1.7 is the rr ratio. Which means that it is 1.6:1 or 1.7:1, 1 being the cam lobe. So 1.6 or 1.7 times the cam lobe.
