Question Lifters

I heard today that if you have hydrolic lifters to tighten the rockers down just until you close the gap between the rocker arm and the pushrod. Is this right because I have mine gapped in my 66 Stang according to the haynes manual. I wasn't sure if it originally came with solid lifters which would explian the gap to me. So do I need to tighten them down.
