I've got the Lakewood model as well. I also have the Ford Aluminum driveshaft - it's close, but it doesn't rub.
As for placement, I've got mine a few inches behind the U-joints. I thought that the instructions told you where to put it? Maybe I'm wrong though as it's been a long time since I installed my loop. As I recall, the curvature of the braket matches up with the underside of the car so that you have a pretty good idea where it goes. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to seat properly on the body.
