Quite the contrary, long tube headers actually are about 10 ft/lbs better at around 3000rpm and their effects diminish as RPM's increase. At low RPM's the length of the tubes scavenge to pull more air out of the cylinders, At high RPM's the scavenging effect is not needed as much because the exhaust velocity is quite high, this is the reason that longtubes are not that much better than the stock exhaust manifolds on 96 up cobras.

Oh yeah, Sky, keep in mind that you've got a long runner manifold that has about 14" runners to build velocity to ram into the intake valve, 429AL has runners that are about 4" long.
