			 Hi All,

I'm looking for a donor car to convert my AOD to a T5 manual. I have an '89. Do 4cyl cars with the 5 speed have the tranny I'm looking for, or do I need to find a 5.0L donor? Thanks, Justin

And the input shaft is a different length, between the two tranny's as well I believe.

just some food for thought for you

5.0 T-5's are stonger than the 2.3 T-5's now if you are planning on some horsepower modifications in the future you may want a tranny even stonger than the 5.0 T-5, perhaps a T-5 Z spec or a Tremec or something Anyways, if you are thinking about something like that you can get the actual tranny from any number of places and use a 4 cyl as a donor for the pedal assembly and everything else you need. 4 cylinders are easier to find and even if you do find a 5.0 donor how good is the tranny? might be wore out and need a rebuild anyway it's all up to you but this is just another suggestion

I've been told by someone who between he and his dad have over 50 years of working on fords that the only difference between the 4 and the 8 tranny is the first gear ratio and the smaller dia. input shaft bearing.... the 4 is no weaker than the 8

			 Ford rates the 2.3 t-5's at 240 ft-lbs

the 5.0 t-5's from 85-89 were rated at 265 the 5.0's from 90-93 were rated at 300 ft-lbs for the 90-93's there was a higher nickel content in the gearset so the metal was actually stronger. as for the 2.3's, I think they had the weaker alloy as well Also a smaller shaft diameter would be weaker than the larger shaft although I don't think the shaft is the weakest part. The higher gear ratio itself would also make the tranny weaker. with the same input torque, the higher gear ratio would produce a higher output torque. think about the gears in a rear end. It is alot easier to break the tires loose with 4.10's than it is with 2.73's, same thing with tranny gears except it's not just the tires breaking loose.

just a little known fact, the input shaft is the same dia. and length..... The only difference in dia. comes in at the very tip of the shaft where it slides into the input bearing which wouldn't make it any weaker.

that's why I said the shaft wasn't the limiting factor here
