1) yes speakers can wear out.

2) I've seen a amps from the early 80's. For the love of all things decent YES buy new amps. New amps are WORLDS ahead of the amps you have now. Sound quality, power, etc on new amps are LIGHT YEARS head of amps from 20 years ago.

3) There are thousands of members here with CD players in their fox bodies. I don't think I've ever seen a post in here about CD players skipped. I've had 2 CD players in my stang a Pioneer DEH-1000(cheap model) and my current JVC digifine. Neither have ever skipped, even on some of Mississippi's ULTRA nice roads
