Based on my experiences with the fuel pump, I would say probably not. I've replaced two of them, and they both tended to to stall out - sputter and stumble for a few seconds, RPM goes up and down, as the fuel pressure goes to zero, and then the engine dies. Or the car would not start at all due to no or low fuel pressure. I did have an intermittent cut off where my car just died whenever I took off hard. After I jerked forward in my seat, a few seconds later, the car would come back to life - ended up being the relay for the computer, under the dash above the computer on my 87. My pumps also hum - not real loud, but you can hear it when you bend down by the rear lights. It is the stock Ford unit, and the current one is about 8 years old.
------------------ Basically stock 87 LX 5.0, owned since 3/31/1987. 216,000+ mile daily driver, GT interior, King Cobra clutch, World Class T-5, GT turbine wheels. Plans: GT hatch & spoiler, rear disk brakes, and a PAINT JOB! |
