Never ever mess with any part of an air bag without disconnecting your battery first. They can go beyond putting you in the hospital, if you're in the wrong position they can put you in the ground !!
Also remember saltzstang ... airbags go off from deceleration not aceleration. The only way on a drag strip its gonna deploy is if you hit something almost head on ... in which case i think i'd just as soon have it in there
