You could use rivets, they just did that in a car craft article. Another thing would be automotive adhesive, (or its called bonding agent or something) which is crazy strong, the stuff alot of body shops use to replace quarter panels. My uncle (autobody guy) said its stronger then welding. Good luck. have you seen that VW commercial?
