What I did was to add on an oil pressure switch (Holley) to the area where my oil pressure sending unit is. That allows voltage only when oil pressure is on. Then your fuel pump will pump only when the engine is running. I also have a hot line running to the switch + when the engine is being cranked, thereby pumping fuel as well while cranking.

I also have that same line acting as a trigger to a relay operating my two electric fans for radiatror cooling. I don't really want anything running unless my engine is running, therefore the oil pressure switch.

Hope this all makes sense.
