If the cap and wires are 5 years old, then definitely start there. How old are the plugs? Suprises me that anyone would let any ignition parts go 5 years. Rev ------------------ '66 Coupe, 306, 300 HP, C-4, 13.97 e.t., 100.3 mph 1/4 mi.

Could be a number of things. If it runs fine at low RPMs I would think it could be something possibly with advance/distributor or even a fuel problem. I had a problem like that on a truck I had and it ended up being the carb. Good Luck

I have had two problems with my car idling fine but cutting out at higher rpms. One was the fuel pump going bad and the other was a wire at the Starter Cellunoid(sp?) wasnt tightened down correctly and was arcing at the higher rpms. I know thats pretty weird but I couldnt't figure it out until it got dark because I never thought to check there. I had another problem with pitted contacts inside the dist. cap but if you have electronic ignition you should be ok there.

I had a similar problem once and it was a faulty coil. I think it was the secondary windings.

Go get a set of wires, cap and rotor. Sure sounds like a secondary break down. And if they're 5 years old they need to be replaced.
