An aftermarket H or X pipe will yield good results in sound and performance. I understand CA has an OEM style rule. Basically, it has to be stock, a direct replacement (same number of cats for example), or an exception such as the Windsor GT40 program.
It seems to depend on where you go for emissions testing, cause I've known some people that have gotten all sorts of off the wall stuff passed, and have had some very tame stuff failed. How mechanical are you, and do you have a good place to work? I also know a lot of people that drive with an aftermarket pipe (usually off-road), then swap the stock part back in for the testing day. Its really not that hard to do. |
