Go to www.tirerack.com

They have some good info on what to do for winter tires and sizes. In a nutshell narrower tires have an easier time than wider sizes so maybe downsizing to 16inch rims and taller tires might be the way to go.
It also never hurts to stick some good sandbags in the trunk. I'll be enjoying my "red sled" all winter long.
