![]() okay,
It seems that I will get more bang for the buck by doing something with the heads. I was looking at a set of powerheads from PC automotive. (E7TE heads ported with bigger valves see mm&ff July 1999 page 180). they dynoed the car with minor boltons and got a 38 hp gain from ported stock heads. Maybe I should just replace the heads for now, then the upper, lower and the rest later. Oh, by the way, we are talking about changing the heads on a 105,000 mile motor. Ive heard that this is not a good Idea on an old engine opening a can of worms and all that. Anyone have any problems changing heads on a high milage motor? Thanks,

![]() I have heard of people swapping heads and cam on a high miler, but of course it's always better to have a prepped shortblock, you would be alright, just look at the cylinder walls, inspect it, since i have pretty good oil pressure im thinking of bolting on some gt-40 p's and just hope for the best, i dont know if my odometer is correct, but i have 90k, which is 190k probaly, but after police duty it could have been rebuilt.
Maybe run a compression test, if everthing checks out good, a ported set of e7's should be fine.

![]() last year , my brother and i took a 302 that was rusted solid from sitting outside in someones backyard for 2 years and had 130000 miles on it and we took the entire thing apart and cleaned everything up , put it all back together with new gaskets and the car ran a 13.8 beautifully with just a couple of bolt ons and some tuning . As long as the motor is in good condition , you will be fine .

![]() You can get a set of GT-40P heads for around $450 bucks from Jeff Chambers
Gears would be a nice addition if you don't already have them. The switch to a lower set of gears can shave half a second off your quarter mile time.
