Default Autolite 1100 question... power valve.

Ugh!!!

So, I'm trying to tune this 200... and the new carb that I bought for it... and I'm having a problem at idle.

So, I google some info on the autolite 1100 1 barrel, and come across a website dedicated to the rebuild of the carb... but something was different. In the photo, there is a power valve on one side of the carb, one that my old carb did not have and I had naturally dismissed the empty threaded hole in the new one...

Well, wouldn't you know? I'm pulling vacuum from the threaded hole... hence, it appears as though I need a power valve to plug the hole and hopefully satisfy my woeful idling problem. Sure enough, however, I can't find any information of what was supposed to be in there as far as type and vacuum readings.

So, would anyone know of this info? I have a couple of Holley valves that plug right into the hole... but I'd rather be certain than guess and waste another day freezing my butt off trying to tune a car that has the wrong equipment...

Thanks!

#47 is the item I'm talking about...

Step 27 Attach linkage I1 (Fig. 6) to lever I2 with clip I.
Step 28 Place new gasket on power valve (H) (Fig. 6) and thread in new power valve. Use 1" wrench or crescent wrench, being careful to not round faces.

and here is the replacement carb... you can see that the threaded hole is visibly open...

The legend in the parts diagram says it's a spark control valve. Does it send vacuum to the distributor under certain engine loads. That would be my bet. If it was just left open and unconnected, that would just create a vacuum leak and would certainly make for a bad idle.

I'm really just guessing on this as I have no experience with that carb.

Thanks Rev... but the orifice to the right of the one where the power valve (spark control valve), is where a vacuum line went in for the spark advance on the old carb.

In the instructions, step 28 specifically mentioned the power valve going there...

I guess there is some contradicting info... I'm at a loss, though... in either case, nothing is there now.. but an opening and a vacuum leak, but both diagrams show approximately the same looking object is supposed to be there.

Could that threaded hole possibly be for the PCV valve hose connection? Some carbs have a large vacuum connection for that purpose near the base flange of the carb. If your old carb didn't have that hole, why not just put a power valve plug in it and see how she does?

Thanks for trying though...

Good news...

I still don't know how to get ahold of a new one, but a buddy of mine who had a couple 170s had a couple carbs with these on.

They are opposite of normal power valves in that the vacuum pulls from the nipple side... I put it on and helped out my idling problems, though it still isn't where it needs to be.
