![]() Alright you guys, sure enough if a Stang has a Vortec installed, stroker, or any other pretty serious modding, you will roast a stock SS or Hawk. Realize these mods are also available to the LS1 drivers. However, I didn't want to start a "who can mod their cars the most to out run each other" thing. That's limited by how much our wives will let us waste/spend.
I'm waiting until approx 5000 miles to rear wheel dyno my car (only about 1900 miles now). According to the message boards I normally haunt (ls1.com & slpeng.com), SS's and Hawks are under rated so as not to step on the toes of her highness the Vette. I can't confirm this since I haven't dyno'd my car yet but I have seen posts of anywhere from 290 rwhp to 310 rwhp for supposedly totally stock cars; then add something like 10 to 20% depending on transmission type for drivetrain losses and you've got an approximation of the net hp (supposedly). The manufacturer ratings on all 71 and later cars are net ratings. Do the manufacturers lie? Absolutely. That's why the rwhp dyno is the ultimate equalizer IMHO. Truthfully, I not completely blown away with the acceleration of my car. It seems kinda quick but not what I was hoping for. That's one of the reasons I'm trying to race a late model GT to see if I would have been even more underwhelmed. One thing I've learned from this thread is that apparently those of us who would like to race on the street, regardless of our car's make, are kinda rare. Somehow I just assumed that z28's and T/A's would race you guys. I stand corrected. Have a great day!
