I've used the starting fluid trick a few times myself, it works good. Have you verified that you actually have spark? Sounds to me like a blown fuel pump fuse, relay or bad fuel pump. That'll stop ya dead in your tracks. All 4.3 trucks have at least Toilet bowl injection so you will have an in tank pump. You can verify voltage at the connector leading to the fuel pump, if no voltage the fuse or relay is shot. If there is voltage then time to drop the tank down
