After thinking about this comment it dawned on me... In 1994 I paid my car off(bought in 91) and was about to buy a brand new 4x4. The car was stock except for the hi-po tune up. I had the car serviced.. everything. First tranny filter change and all, I figured I'd do this before I had the new truck payment and I'd have 2 nice vehicles with no maintenance problems. Within a week the od was burnt. Had to get the aod rebuilt..

There is a good chance your brothers problem was the fact that the tranny wasn't maintained properly. I've was told "Either change the tranny fluid regularly or DON'T change it at all".
