Maybe something else is wrong with your engine. Why don't you pull the codes. My local Autozone parts store lends tools for free -- I wonder if you have a place like that where you can get a diagnostic tool.
Also, double check to make sure everything is installed properly. I've got them in my car and the work great. Of course you can get a custom chip and turn the code off so you wouldn't even need MIL's.
