Hi,
Holy cow! I an 89 LX and I have the exact same problem as you. Including the burn mark in the grey adaptor (it looks like a browinish tint in the middle right?)I have been at this for weeks/months and still have no idea on how to fix this problem. I too have tried several switches, and I still get the same problem. I have checked the connector for proper grounding and they all seem to be grounded.
