Well, to each his own, but I don't think I'd ever put side exhaust on a fox body. I'm not too keen on side exhausts on any car.
The only type of side exhaust that I do like is the side pipes on an AC Cobra or the like. This is just my personal opinion. Having said that, it definitely would be unique. I'm not sure how much HP, if any, you'd lose. The exhaust does usually have to do a 180 with side exhaust mufflers (ie in & out at the front of the muffler).
