Now don't quote me, but I believe the stock fuel pump is only about an 85-90lph unit. Maybe someone can verify that or correct me. Your symptons are consistant with a bad fuel pump. I swapped my stock pump for a 155lph one. I would recommend an adjustable regulator as well.

As far as doing the installation yourself, it is pretty basic. Make sure the tank is as empty as possible. I drove my car (backwards) up a set of ramps. Disconnect the battery. Position a floor jack with a piece of plywood under the tank and begin loosening the straps. As the tank lowers, disconnect the wires to the pump and sending units, and the fuel lines. MAKE SURE you have the correct plastic clips to replace the fuel lines. My pump did not come with new clips, maybe some do. This is where that HELP!! section at your auto parts store will come in handy! When the tank is out of the car, you can undo the retaining nut which holds the pump in place in the tank. Now just reverse the steps for installing the new pump. I would also recommend changing the fuel filter at this point. Good luck!
