![]() GT's didn't have 8.8's until 86 either. I've got a 5spd 85 GT and I unfortunately have 7.5 rear. I heard this trick on how to tell the difference between the 7.5 and 8.8. Go to the back of the car and look at the differential. If it is taller than it is wide it is an 8.8. If it is wider than it is tall it is a 7.5. I was lucky enough to find a friend that gave me a deal on a rear end he decided not to use. But you can get an FMS 8.8 with 3.73 gears installed for 699 from mustangs unlimited. This is what would have gotten myself. Considering 3.73 gears are about 400 installed, its not a bad price.
