I say the trucker brought it on himself. If he wasn't prepared to have to stop his rig, he shouldn't have been so close behind you.
I hesitate to say that he "deserved" it, but...it's not like you cut in front of him when he was 10 lengths behind you, jammed on your brakes, and then countered his efforts to avoid you. He did come up behind you and started tailgating of hiw own free will. I mean, if someone robs you at gunpoint, and you wrestle the gun away and shoot them, is it your fault?
