Emissions Test

I'll tell you what you should do. Install the H pipe, and the smog pump if you can. The EGR would help you if you have to do a "cruise" test (usually 1800-2000 rpm), but if you don't want to install it, don't. Set the timing to 10 BTDC, and open the gap on the spark plugs to .055". Make sure you have a 192 degree t-stat installed. Go have it tested. Take the long way (drive for at least 30 minutes), and make sure you get the engine as hot as you can just prior to the test. If it fails the visual, have the tech write down exactly why it failed. If it fails the sniffer test, they will give you the paperwork with the results, as well as the maximum numbers for each category. It should be done on a 4 gas analyzer that will list the readings for HC, CO, CO2 and O2. You may not have any maximums or minimums for the CO2 and O2, but their numbers will help in determining what needs to be done to pass. If you do the things I've suggested, you will probably pass anyway, but if you don't, make sure to get the paperwork that tells your results, and what they were supposed to be.
