Awesome paint color. It's looks great so far. Hey, I gotta question for ya. I'm looking to getting my stang painted, as the 11 years on the same paint job from the factory is starting to fade, plus some other minor surface scratches and small chips here and there. I was wondering what you guys would suggest for a paint job? Like should I go the way that Rick is going? Or should I get something more of just like...A Maaco paint job? Thanks alot. Oh yeah, hey rick, how much does that cost

exgm..very similar except it has a Alum wing, and Cobra rear skirt, no emblems anywhere.

Rosco- I have way over $600 in materials alone, don't skimp on the material or the results will suffer. My neighbor actually is the one who sprayed it, and did all the body work in my garage. I learned alot these last 6 weeks, I did the sanding and work on the ground effects man what a lot of work.

Since I added a alum wing, all the factory holes had to be welded up then my neighbor worked his magic and you never knew there were other holes in the hatch, it came out perfect. I also had my gauges mounted out on the cowl which we welded up..never new they were there either. He did a helluva job for sure.

Don't worry I'll post final pics, hope to have all the body panels on and aligned by late next week early the following week, then it will take me a week or so to get the brakes and wiring back in the car (all which will be hidden in the fenders) then I'll do the interior and last but not least the motor.

Looks awesome!!!

I'm so glad to see more Mustangers going with silvers and gray tones, they look so sleek and refined Most people were shocked when I told them what color I was painting my car...guess they assumed a Mustang HAD to be a loud, attention getting color. Turns out a subtle metallic shade draws MORE attention than red or orange

She's lookin great!!! Can't wait to see her all put together

Rick 91GT, I've got to commend you for doing it RIGHT! It looks AWESOME! Mine looked EXACTLY like that last year. It's a '79 Cobra that I had painted 2001 Nissan Pathfinder Yellow, and Satin Black from the rubstrip down. I've spent a small fortune buying all brand new emblems, taillights, headlights, door handles, decals, etc... But it's all worth it, as you already know. Now, if I can only "find" the extra 14K to do the ENTIRE drivetrain and suspension, I'd be in heaven! Show us pics soon!

rick, how long did it take you to pull the motor and all the electrical accesories in the engine compartment? will it be hard to get them in the right spot again? did you rip all of your interior out???

this is what i am going to do to my car in a couple years, the same red(or orange) as it is now, but with some black pearl flames, a cobra rear bumper cover, fiberglass hatch, stock gt wing, mach1 hood, and whatever else i can get that is fiberglass...

anyone here taken out all the sound deadening, and if so, how much louder is the car inside??? i need to get the weight of the car down....

Bowtie- I have had the car apart so many times that I know where everything goes..lol

ALL THE WIRES and DASH were out of my car at one point this winter, I am hiding all the wires in the fenders and bending and making new brake lines, and converting to manual brakes. Took me a few days to get it apart, really not as long as you think. THe computer side harnes comes out through the engine bay, the drivers side harness gets pulled into the inside of the car. I had to remove the dash to pull the heat and A/C out of the car.

Right now the only thing that is on the car is 4 spare tires the rear and K-member..nothing else, so I have a lot of work to do to get it done by the end of MAy which is my goal. He is going to buff the car out early next week then we will get most of the body panels on, I may leave the side skirts off till the end so there is no chance of them getting messed up while I get it all back together.

Hissing Cobra- Your right there is only one true way to paint a car, take it down to nothing. I have all new weather stripping, some moldings, fender, a rear cobra cover..etc.. gets expensive really quick.

Moc- You hit the nail on the head, a lot of work that is worth it in the end

Thanks for all the replies guys, I'll keep you updated

Looking good Rick. You got me jealous now. Are you leaving the car plain? Or are you doing any custom coloring on it?

No need to be jealous, once you get your project all fifnshed I'mm sure it will be looking good as well...

What you need to do is get down here to take a look at it once it is all up and running, maybe that late June event we talked about.

We almost put some blue perl ghost flames on the car but for now I want the plain, clean look of this silver, man it sparkles and shines like no other out in the sun, I ma very happy to say the least. Thos pic's above are only with 1 coat of clear, it has 3 will be buffed out early next week then it should look truly like a piece of glass, then the re-assemebly starts
