The clunk you hear is the quadrant and pawl disengaging from each other. Chances are the teeth are rounded off. The only way you will completely fix the problem is to go to an aftermarket set-up. I use the FRPP quadrant and cable also. I have used it for over a year with two different clutches and two different trannys without a single problem.
