![]() When the rear brake shoes are totally worn they'll scrape on the drum and you have a metal-to-metal sound and yes, it's awful. You may also have a cracked drum - not unknown on older cars. Check out the parking brake cable, too.
Either way, you need to pull the drum and be prepared to replace the brake shoes, hardware, possibly the drum and the cylinder, too. The rear brakes get little use but they do wear out. |
