I've heard that you need to have stock seat belts on a street driven vehicle.

NHRA rules state, "A quick release, 3-inch shoulder harness meeting SFI Spec 16.1 is mandatory in all cars in competition required by the rules to have a roll bar or a roll cage..." In other words you can put in a roll cage no matter how fast you are but if you need one because you're running fast enough to require one you must have the proper restraint. As far as I know most states require stock seat belts in street driven vehicles which could be a conflict.
