Unit summed it up fairly well. The power loss from the converter is a lot on the stock AOD. The gearing, especially first, on the AOD is around 2.40 as compared to the T-5's 3.35 and of course the lesser shift points and extra weight of the AOD are all a factor. The AOD is a general-use automatic and when put next to a manual transmission Mustang with identical mods in a race, it will lose. That can be rectified with a looser converter, shift kit and lower rear axle gears if you choose. Simple fact of automotive life. |
