Well a 408-418 kit with forged pistons, forged 4340 crank and 4340 H-beams plus rings and bearings will run me around $1500. I was getting a motor from the junk yard and having all the machine work done plus oil pump $30, ARP shaft $25, timing chain $69 (steel gear) and pan and pick up...
