i think lx mike hit it on the head by stating think about the transmission and rearend. i would definately build these up before starting. And i will even take if further by saying if you do not have weld on subs, strut tower brace, and 4 pt lower cross bar, i would get those too, plus new suspension pieces like lower control arms and stuff like that. have a solid foundation to build on then get it running strong. You don't want a 11 sec car that the first time you go down the track you blow the trans or everytime you go down the highway it vibrates badly. but anyway here is my list to spend $8,000.

1) weld on subframes ($300.00 parts and labor)
2) strut tower brace ($100.00)
3) 4pt lower cross bar ($50.00)
4) weld up torque boxes ($100.00)
5) upper & lower control arms ($250.00)
6) 351 short block ($1,900)
7) alum heads of your choice ($1,200)
8) upper & lower intake of your choice ($550)
9) 70mm tb, mass air meter ($500)
10) new centerforce clutch ($280)
11) gears ($400 parts & labor)
12) long tubes ($280.00)
13) h-pipe ($100.00
14) new cat back ($180.00)
15) griffen alum radiator ($300)
16) 255 lph fuel pump ($150)

this adds up to $6650 and some of the prices will vary depending on what exact parts you go with and such. I will keep the other $1350 in my pocket and wait to see what happens when you put it on the road. this is not an exact list but just a few ideas to get you started and something to think about
