How many miles on the motor since it was refreshened? Since you have been through the motor (installing the 10.5:1 pistons) - what type of rings did you use? I would assume that you didn't use the stock ones that Mr 5 0 is referring to. A good set of rings (C&A, Federal Mogul, etc.) on a refreshened motor should not be burning a quart of oil every 1,600 - 1,800 miles.

FWIW, my old 302 'burned' little to no oil whatsoever. I would get about 4.5 quarts out with every change (probably another .25 - .4 was in the head vallies, coating the rockers, etc.
