I had the same problem with my old t-5.
I think what is happening is when you are spinning the tires off the line you tires are going faster than your car and when you try to shift the tire slow down and hook up for a split second and that slows your syncros down just enough to get it in to second, but when you hook up you are actually going faster when you shift and the syncros are just moving too fast to slow every thing down enough to get it in to gear. I would suggest trying to shift to second at a lower rpm and that should help.
I had to do that in mine and I did get a better time but it will be a lot better if you get a better transmission.
