The lid mod is for LS1's. They replace the stock chubby plastic box with an aerodynamic high-flow plastic piece. It costs around $200 US and usually nets gains of around 10-15 hp at the wheels used in combination with a K&N filter. The nice thing about the LS1 is that it grabs the cold air in front of the car while the LT-1 grabs it from under the car.

The LT-1 uses a tube relocating the air intake at the bottom of the driver's side. You need to cut the rubber splash guard to get fresh air from under the car. Good for 10-20 HP over the stock intake.
