Here is a possibility. Wet kit. A hard nitrous launch, the car hooks and bogs. A backfire could happen then. Not that it happens every day.

Dry kits are tempermental with bottle pressure. They put out a lot less power when the bottle is cold. More of a power drop than the wet kit.
