hi,

I'm building a serious 408 for street/strip and possible everyday usage.

I've bought pretty much all top quality stuff and I expect it run that way. My 1st goal was to build a total driveable on pump gas stroker engine. My 2nd goal was for it to push my 1983 GT to 130+ 1/4mile trap speeds. I was told that in order to push it that fast I needed about 580-600HP at the flywheel. I've kept the engine to a 10.5 to 1 static compression ratio.

Here's my parts list:

1974 351W Block, 408 Eagle steel crank,ESP H beam rods, JE pistons, Polished TFS"R" heads, (I knocked the casting off and blended the bowls) CAT main girdle and Fluid dampner, Crane 1.7 ratio Race Gold Roller Rockers, Lunati Solid Roller Cam (290/300) advertised duration- 604/629 lift, Edelbrock Super Victor Intake, Holley 850CFM DP Carb, Moroso oil pan(builtin windage tray) and Valve Covers. Hooker 2" Headers.

Most buildups i've seen so far haven't done this type buildup yet so I'm kinda in the dark about some things. But I have spoken to enough people I believe I'll come very close to achieving my goals. Though I won't have the engine put on a dyno, I will dyno the car once its in place.

Some of the other pieces I have already in the car are :
Richmond 4+1 5 speed transmission, This is a real 5 speed with no overdrive, I'll be clicking all 5 gears through a LONG Vertigate shifter. (POSITIVELY NEVER TO MISS A GEAR) , and a Currie 9inch fitted with Mark Williams 35 axles and spool. I plan on running a 28X10.5 slick at the track and a similar sized E T Street tire for around town driving.

I haven't driven the car in couple years now and was itching to get it "ROAD WORTHY" again. With only 38,000 miles on the odometer I'm anxoius to do some street driving again with it.

Startup date is the 1st/2nd wk in July followed by a new paintjob within the week of getting it running. I'll keep you posted on how we're going.
