That's awful, man. My Mom put her cat to sleep not too long ago due to Feline Leukemia. She (Buddy) was suffering and she just wasn't doing too well. She went in and held her while she did it, but felt it was the best because she was really suffering. You know it's the right thing, 14 years is a very long time for a pet. She lived a long happy life with you. I know it will be very hard, but we're behind you.
I have lost a few of my friends over the years, and I still miss 'em! Now I have Foo, and he is my buddy.
