I guess I'm in EGR mode tonight. You can check my response on thread "barely idling - Please Help."

Basically, as far as I'm concerned, there's no benefit to removing the EGR setup. If you do it though, and want a cheap way to avoid the check engine light, leave the solinoid that controls the vacuum to the EGR in place, as well as the EVP (mounted on top the EGR). You can then just cap off the inlet that comes from the exhaust. The EGR will still open and close as it's supposed to, but nothing will be entering the intake.

You will get a code 85 for another part of the emissions system, but this does not trigger the MIL and doesn't impact driveability.
