The fuel gauge is not linear so I wouldn't base your calculations on that. You may also want to verify that your speedometer, and, therefore, your odometer are accurate.

90 does seem low, though, for half a tank. I'm at like 110 or so with my engine and 3.55 gears.

Gears would not make that much a difference.
