Mercury mods
You've done all the obvious stuff short of heads, intake, cam, etc.
Now you need a 4.30 rear gear, a looser converter and a shift kit along with a trans cooler to wake that big bertha up and get into the 15's. |

Your TPS is too high, and your t-stat is too low, but what do i know?
Take care, -Chris

You are correct, I have done NO internal Modifications at all to reach that ET.Strapped for cash.I am pretty sure I know what internal Mods I can do.I want to keep my A/C so that means No pullies I do alot of I-95 Cruising, so I can't really go any lower than 3.73. The Trans is New and shifts Very crisp, stock converter with a New Cooler. @Big Bertha.---------What TPS setting is correct? and 160 is to low?Hmm? Ok.Thanks.

Mods
The stock Ford 192-195 degree thermostst will deliever better overall performance. Trust me.
TPS setting should be just below 1 volt. Anywhere in the mid-90 range is fine. It should read near 4.9 v @ WOT. A 3.73 rear is better than stock but a 4.10 would do more. If you start adding engine upgrades and develop some serious power the stock AOD and converter will eventually fail. They weren't meant for HD applications. Just so you know. |

I read a few online articles about TPS. They all said just as you advised. 1 even went as far as saying".98 volts EXACTLY!" Never checked WOT,but I will now.I agree about the Gears, but I want to keep my 80 mph cruise around 2,500rpm,which I have now.I guess my power is approaching 200Hp. I actually don't plan on doing any internal Mods.Maybe a 100hp Nitrous kit, after exhaust. What is the advantage of a 192-195 over a 160?Not saying I don't trust you, just asking.

Thermostats
Quote:
Running rich (and colder) will have some effect on power but you're also thinning out your oil and doing internal damage to the engine for a very small power gain. The 5.0 engine runs best at around 200 degrees. The Ford thermostst (192) keeps it very close to that temperature. I strongly suggest you invest a few bucks in a Ford thermostat (good quality) and the time to install it. Your engine will thank you. |
