Okay, there are two temp sensors on your engine. Both are towards the front on the lower intake, with one on each side of the distributor. The one on the drivers side of the distributor is for your factory gauge. This is where you should install the sending unit for your gauge. The one on the passenger side of the distributor is the ECT. It's how the ECM (computer) knows the engine temp, and is critical for a good running engine.

Which one did you remove to install your sending unit?
