Whew! I have lots of new numbers for you, Chris.

The number above the starter mounts is B9TE/AB. There are two numbers in the valley, 3M7 and 117, and several numbers appear on the conrod: D6VE/AA, B141/CV, and on the conrod bearing cap appears C9AE/B. The piston carries the number B749.

The bad news is that the counterweight on the crank has the number 2YAB. Does this mean that the engine is a 460?

Hope that these numbers can tell you a story.

To answer Sam's question: yeah, there are plenty of keen muscleheads here. There is quite a strong club fraternity of Mustang followers, and some stunning cars around.

I was at a classic car show this weekend, and there were four or five really good examples of classic Mustangs, well restored and original. Unfortunately, a lot of our good cars have left the country, as the rand is so low against most other currencies, making our cars very cheap if you have dollars or pounds.

For example, I recently saw two cars for sale: a '65 Fastback for R85,000.00 (about $8,500) and a '67 289 for R75,000.00 ($7,500). There is also a recent model Saleen Mustang (I can't remember the details) going for about R500,000.00 ($50,000). How do these compare with US prices?

Are there any other South African members of the forum that you are aware of?

Thanks for all the help.

Cheers,

Clare.
