I'm an easterner but if I went west, it would probably be Texas.

California is a beautiful, temperate state (I lived there a few years and visited again in '98) but it's been overrun by political whackos (enviromentalists, gays, liberals in general including Governor Grey-out Davis) and the taxes and regulations must be a burden. Texas seems a bit less temperate but certainly more friendly - and the muscle car scene seems to be thriving.
