You cannot shift an automatic car into drive without depressing the brake pedal first and cannot start a car with a stick. Even if you find a way to get the car started you will not be able to stop it once going or shift it effectively. It doesn't seem like you could twist it off of the pedal either. And if you did it would be extremely difficult to stop/shift. I know there are still ways around this and a good thief can get the car if they want it, but this will keep the little punks scratching their heads and finding an easier target. Even a professional would have to come prepared to get the car.
