OCing does shorten the life....
I've never heard of anyone having their CPU dieing on them though. As long as you are doing a moderate OC and you don't mess with it. Its when you push it to hard or let the temps rise that it may just die on you. Also, pelts are real hard on a cpu, but I doubt you use one.
