Let's see if I can remember everything

My two computer's i've built
Dorm comp
CPU - XP1600+ running at 1.53Ghz
Motherboard - msi k7n420 pro
memory - 512MB crucial pc2100 @ cas2
heatsink - alpha pal8045 w/ ystech fan(30cfm)
video - geforce2 mx400
hard drives - ibm 60gxp 60GB, western digital wd800jb 80GB
Drives - Pioneer 16x dvd drive, lg 40x/10x/40x cd-rw
firewire card
pc power and cooling turbo cool 300 watt power supply
winxp professional
logitech mouse and intel wireless mouse
lexmark z12 printer(free w/ 3 months internet)
dell 17" monitor(free, old part from a comp at work)
klipsch proaudio 2.1 speakers
campus network

Comp sitting at home
CPU - XP1600+ running at 1.6Ghz(1800+ equivalent)
Motherboard - Abit KG7
Memory - 512MB crucial pc2100 @ cas2
heatsink - alpha pal8045 w/ ystech fan(30cfm)
video - ati radeon 64mb
soundcard - sound blaster live
hard drives - ibm 60gxp 40GB, maxtor 80GB
Drives - HP 12x dvd drive, sony 12x/8x/24x cd-rw
firewire card
winxp professional
generic mouse and intel wireless mouse
lexmark printer
generic 16" monitor
altec lansing 4.1 speaker
cable modem



It's getting to the point where intel processors and amd processors excel in different areas. So to know which one is better you have to look at what you use your comp for the most and then see which processor does better. You have to think now, you can't just pick the one with the higer mhz number. If you hate noise you're probably better off with intel, amd processors tend to run hot and require a better heatsink(faster, and thus, louder fan) than pentiums.
