The only gear you will need if yours is bad or chewed up is the one for the end of the cable that goes into the tranny, the other gear you are talking about doesn't need to be changed and that is in the tailshaft or the tranny and requires the tranny to be torn apart, atleast that section.
The cable comes off the back of the speedo by psuhing the tabs in and pushing the cable towards the speedo, it will then release and you can pull it out. You have to clips that the cable rides in on it's way back to the tranny, very easy to do.
