FWIW, when the new Dodge Viper hits showrooms later this year, it will break both real and psychological barriers, pumping out an amazing 500 horsepower, as well as 525 lbs.-ft. of torque. The Viper is the only domestic product to break the 500/500 barrier, although, the next generation Z06 may soon follow. If Cadillac gets authorization to put it's supercar prototype into production, the Cien will also join the list. It is currently powered by a 750hp V12.
On the foreign front, the new Audi RS6 is conservatively rated at 450hp, and the 2003 VW Phaeton will be here before you know it, with a 450hp W12 engine. Currently, the Japanese are sitting this high horsepower race out, though they've proven fast followers when a clear-and profitable-trend emerges. Take care, ~Chris
